Time-lapse imaging technology provides a non-invasive and dynamic approach for embryo quality assessment in assisted reproductive technologies. Unlike conventional static morphological evaluation, time-lapse systems enable continuous monitoring of embryonic development under stable culture conditions, allowing precise analysis of morphokinetic parameters such as cleavage timing, cell cycle progression, fragmentation, and developmental synchrony. Evidence from studies in human and animal embryos indicates that early cleavage patterns and synchronized cell divisions are strongly associated with improved developmental competence and blastocyst formation. Overall, time-lapse technology enhances embryo selection beyond traditional morphology-based methods, although further standardization and validation are required for routine clinical application.
